| Background: |
| Cross Keys Homes (CKH) is Peterborough’s largest housing association following the transfer of 10,000 council properties in October 2004. The company’s principal activity is the management of social housing, including general needs provision, housing for older people, and specialist supported housing for the homeless. Cross Keys Homes launched its five-year community strategy in early 2008 to help improve the quality of life for those living on our estates and the surrounding communities. Worklessness is one of a number of strands of the strategy and we are focusing on this over the next few years as we consider that this is one of the main building blocks to success in delivering the overall strategy. Our project, branded as ‘Working 4 U’, focuses on improving employability through skills and confidence building of those in some of the most deprived communities in Peterborough. The company is a large organisation with a good reputation which would make it beneficial for a graduate to work with. | ||
Objective: |
| The overall aim of the project is to deliver on the regional economic strategy in terms of skills development aiming to tackle the increasing gap between thriving areas and areas that are adapting. The aim is to help people who are unemployed or at threat of redundancy to increase skills and confidence, leading to getting back into employment, setting up a business or into voluntary roles. There are a number of targets to be reached for the project which is funded through The East of England Development Agency and Cross Keys Homes. The targets for the project are – 400 individuals across the five target areas of Westwood and Ravensthorpe, Orton, East and Dogsthorpe will be moved closer to the labour market benefitting from improved employability and skills. 400 individuals will have improved confidence and skills through access to tailored Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) • 50 people will be accessing volunteering placements and/or work trials and experiencing daily routine and preparation for employment, • 5 communities will have an increasingly positive outlook and aspirations towards employment, • Many aspects of those factors contributing to child poverty will be addressed through pro-active work with unemployed single parents (who will be a large part of the target market), • 50 people will receive advice on business start up, 3 people will be able to start their own business, 18 people will achieve skills for life qualification (year 2) The success of the project from March 2010- April 2011 will be measured against these targets. | ||
