Background:
Northampton Borough Council was one of the first authorities within the Country to commence kerbside collections. We operate our own MRF (materials reclamation facility). The post is based at our Depot in Northampton and will give the opportunity for a completely hands on experience. We have our own promotional trailer and working with the Northamptonshire Waste Partnership (partnership made up of all the districts and county council within Northamptonshire) have a dedicated education team with whom the post holder would be expected to liaise and work closely with as well as undertaking our own initiatives.

Objective:
 
To develop and promote the 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) within Northampton and working with other Districts within Northamptonshire, voluntary sector and community organisations and to develop project work which has already been initiated.

Essential Selection Criteria:

1. Strong inter-personal and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels.
2. Ability to use Microsoft excel and word and to present data in varied formats including written reports
3. Ability to act on own initiative
4. A clean and valid driving licence
5. Basic knowledge of waste management and sustainability
6. Be of smart appearance and positive attitude

1. Experience in dealing with members of the public
2. Experience in producing promotional work and website authoring

Key Tasks:
1. Implement, facilitate and monitor waste reduction initiatives e.g. home composting
2. Engage the interest of the public in waste issues to bring about increased participation in the Authority’s recycling schemes
3. To assist and develop marketing and promotional opportunities for waste and recycling including all printed materials relating to the service
4. Maintain good working links with other Councils and external/internal bodies
