Jacobs is leading a strategically important project to enhance the national evidence base on Commercial and Industrial (C&I) waste and management, to ?Inform central strategic policy making on reducing the amount of waste produced by businesses, increasing the proportion reused or recycled and reducing the residual going to landfill; ?Establish realistic and meaningful baselines for use in performance monitoring and assessing impact of policy on C&I waste arising and management; ?Provide a basis for the development of C&I waste infrastructure market. | ||
Objective: |

| To assist with the data collection from Commerical and Industrial waste businesses, arisings and management in 2010 across the London Region of this national project, this will involve; ?Field surveys to commercial and industrial premises to record individual waste streams, by material type, form, composition, and tonnage, along with the basis of the tonnage estimates (e.g. from business records, surveyor estimates etc), and the management method of each waste stream… ?Telephones surveys to gather information from basic commercial premises. ?Analysis of data gathered and appropriate use of calculations, estimations and conversions to provide data in a single format ?Identification of good practice, on which perhaps case studies could be based for the wider industry. ?Input data for the evaluation report on the fieldwork stage, summarising the performance information gathered and production of comprehensive data tables. The primary role is to support the field team as a surveyor. Training will be provided in survey techniques as well as health and safety. The role will not involve handling waste but will provide the surveyors with an excellent grounding in audit techniques as well as understanding a wide range of industry sectors and how materials move through the supply chain to arise as wastes. The role will also provide experience in understanding treatment and recycling options. | ||
