| The Facilities Department of Worcestershire Mental Health Partnership Trust manages a portfolio of over 40 sites within the NHS. These range from acute hospitals down to small health centre, clinics and residential homes. The total annual bill for energy and water use is approaching £1m. The cost of waste management is also very significant. In common with all NHS estates, Worcestershire MHP is under increasing financial and regulatory pressure to actively manage its environmental performance. This includes improving the monitoring and targeting of energy performance, measuring carbon emissions and raising staff awareness. The primary goal of the Worcestershire MHP Trust is to improve the health and lives of clients and patients. However, the importance of environmental management is an important contributory factor in achieving this goal | ||
Objective: |
||
| To provide a resource dedicated to reducing the environmental and financial costs of energy, water and waste at the Trust’s sites. The work will continue the successful projects from the predecessor in this post. The contribution of new ideas will also be welcome. | ||

| Whilst the project is initially for 12 months it is anticipated that pending performance a permanent position will become available. There is potential for project work evaluation at 6 months, which may include a salary increase depending on achievements. | ||

| 1. Ability to understand and interpret complex data. | ||
| 2. IT literate, including proficiency in the use of spreadsheets and databases | ||
| 3. Knowledge and understanding of the principles of energy management as well as wider environmental management issues regarding water and waste among others. | ||
| 4. Communication & Interpersonal skills. The ability to communicate effectively through both written and verbal forms at all levels of work is essential, as is the ability to influence staff at all managerial levels | ||
| 5. Excellent organisation and time management skills, must be able to project manage their own workload. | ||
| 6. Able to make decisions on priorities of own workload, apply self initiative, work under pressure and meet targets. | ||

Desirable Selection Criteria: |
||
| 1. Knowledge and understanding of Environmental Management Systems (EMS), specifically ISO14001, or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience. | ||
| 2. Basic knowledge of the environmental legislation framework and its application. | ||
| 3. Full and valid U.K. driving licence. | ||
| 4. Basic knowledge of the NHS Group; its structure, its services and operations. | ||
| 5. Relevant experience of using bespoke databases e.g. relating to financial information or energy management. | ||
Key Tasks: |
||
| 1. Assist with the successful introduction of automatic metering and sub-metering systems at multiple sites.Maintain ISO 14001 systems, through contractor audits, regular communication and enhancing performance through designing management programs and objective setting. | ||
| 2. Plan and deliver internal sustainability awareness events across our key sites, these will need to communicate the wider agenda, the work the Group is doing on the agenda and influence our staff to improve their sustainability both in the office and away from work. | ||
| 3. Identify the requirement for best practice briefs and guidance notes, then write and communicate as appropriate. | ||
| 4. Support the development of integrated health, safety & environmental management systems at a Group wide level. | ||
