About Us

We are a national charity that focuses on young people working and learning to boost their employability, as well as the sustainability of communities, employers and themselves.

Why StudentForce for Sustainability?StudentForce for Sustainability

Student
Young people are our main focus – with continuous learning, workshops, mentoring and accreditation. We treat all our users as students, with potential for the future.

Force

Young People, leading and supporting other young people are the main users – generally those over 16 years old who want short-term volunteering or paid placements leading to a job. We recruit, train and support young people on paid placements and as volunteers, helping the future workforce.

For Sustainability
Sustainability is our theme – with projects, volunteering, placements and employment that promote and practice sustainable development. We want to sustain individuals, the local community, economy and environment together.

Why are we unique?

We are the only organisation in Europe that solely focuses on young people, employability, sustainability and learning through work, volunteering and career advice.

Who are our users?

Young people
We recruit, and train recent graduates on paid placement and young people as volunteers. We provide them with a unique level of support to help them become more employable and learn about sustainability.

Communities
We work with communities to help them become more sustainable, more educated in sustainability and gain a better understanding of young people in the context of sustainability.

Employers
We work with communities to help them become more sustainable, more educated in sustainability and gain a better understanding of young people in the context of sustainability.

Partners
We work in partnership with other organisations to help them become more sustainable, more educated in sustainability and gain a better understanding of young people in the context of sustainability.

What do we do?

Where are we based?Oakham Station

The Stationmaster’s house and parcel office at Oakham railway station, derelict for about 20 years, has now been transformed into StudentForce’s new offices, an interpretation centre and meeting room.

StudentForce was the first organisation in the UK to benefit from the Central Trains Station Initiative of Network Rail and Central Trains, giving them a 25 year lease at peppercorn rent. However StudentForce had to find the renovation costs of about £80,000. So with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Railway Heritage Trust, Welland Partnership, Cory Environmental Trust in Rutland and DEFRA, the charity transformed the station into working offices and a training centre.
